Home visits
If you feel you need a doctor to visit you at home, please make your request by telephone between 8.30am and 10.30am if at all possible. The doctor will contact you before visiting to assess the call.
- Calls after 10.30am may be subject to considerable delay as these will be undertaken by the emergency doctor for that day.
The doctors apply strict criteria in deciding if a home visit is appropriate. A home visit is made where it is medically impossible for a patient to get to the surgery, ie patients who are terminally ill and patients who are truly housebound. Lack of transport or inconvenience are not valid reasons for requesting a home visit.
In some elderly patients or those with acute symptoms, home assessment may be useful or necessary. However, being seen in the surgery allows a better consultation, as all of the equipment and resources needed are more readily available.
